 Candon City CDS Immersion Workshop
The Officialdom of the City of Candon, Ilocos Sur made the trip to the island paradise of Boracay, together with representatives from the Congressional District and Provincial Government where it belongs, to consolidate all legislative and executive efforts in internalizing or implementing CDS-related programs and activities.
In her speech, Candon City Mayor Grace Singson chided that the workshop was her own version of President Arroyo’s LEDAC meeting, which was just concluded two days prior to the opening of the Boracay workshop.
She outlined her vision for the City of Candon to become the crux or hub of development for the Province of Ilocos Sur, particularly for the 2nd Congressional District.

CANDON CITY - An estimated P120-million worth of Virginia tobacco plants were damaged in the province due to wilting caused by rains brought by typhoon Agaton, the local office of the National Tobacco Administration reported on Wednesday.
Estrella de Peralta, administrative officer of the tobacco administration’s Candon City branch, disclosed that an estimated 1,652.144 hectares of tobacco or 28.36 percent from the 5,825.6 hectares planted with tobacco as of January 27, were destroyed by heavy rainfalls last week.

CANDON CITY—In a bid to make the world’s biggest ricecake, city officials presented to the public yesterday a ricecake weighing 2,547 kilos, beating the 2,097-kilo ricecake that the Kamaura Food Co. Ltd. baked in Niigata, Japan on March 1, 2002.
The ricecake, locally known as calamay, was made from 200 gantas of glutinous rice, 2,000 coconuts and 1,200 kilos of brown sugar and cooked in 132 huge vats.
Candon folk have been cooking calamay as a cottage industry since 1934.

CANDON CITY: To celebrate the 107th foundation and 4th cityhood anniversaries, residents of this city made the largest rice cake in the world and fed the more than 5,000 people who came to the opening of the city trade fair at the Don Isabelo Abaya monument here.
Candon first made the claim to have made the largest native rice cake, or kalamay, in the world in March 2003 when 3,000 people partook of a two-inch thick rice cake that measured five meters in diameter.
He said the city officials are now arranging to have the feat recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records by next year.

CANDON CITY - The tobacco industry in Ilocos Sur has been strengthened by the creation of a tobacco farmers’ assistance program that will provide them with capital to produce globally competitive tobacco.
The program is a project of House deputy speaker, Rep. Eric D. Singson of Ilocos Sur, the Land Bank of the Philippines and the National Tobacco Administration (NTA).
