Among the horses Pete, who was born in the borough of East York, in Toronto, three a leg over were; Canadiana, Victoria Park Nearctic, Northern Dancer, Lyford Cay, New Providence, Canebora and Flaming Page.
McCann, who was a champion jockey, too, saddled six winners of The Queen's Plate, North America's oldest continuously run stakes race.
New Providence and Canebora were the first two horses (and only horses to date) to win the Canadian Triple Crown, comprised of The Queen's Plate, Prince of Wales and Breeders Stakes.

Owned and bred by Gustav Schickedanz, Wando became the seventh to sweep the series — the Queen's Plate, the Prince of Wales and the Breeders' Stakes — since it was started in 1959.

The Prince of Wales Stakes, the premier race at Fort Erie, is run at a distance of one mile and three sixteenths with a purse of $500,000.
Many excellent horses have won the race including Triple Crown winners Canebora, With Approval, Izvestia, Dance Smartly, and Peteski.
Dance Smartly is also the dam of Scatter the Gold who won the Queen's Plate and Prince of Wales then just missed in the Breeders' Stakes in 2000.

Since 1959, the race has been the first jewel in Canada's Triple Crown Series.
