After docking in the World Heritage listed Albert Dock, the Liverpool '08 Clipper will be open for tours by schoolchildren and the public for the 25th Mersey River Festival, from June 10-13.
The 68-foot yacht, skippered by Tim Magee, made her grand entrance into the world's oldest enclosed dock system at Canning Half-Tide Dock at 09:20am.
The Liverpool 08 Clipper, sponsored by Liverpool City Council and unveiled last October, was built for the 35,000 mile Clipper 05-06 Race, which starts in Liverpool on Sunday, September 18 2005.

The new canal would enter the Canning half tide dock in front of the Merseyside maritime museum and a few yards from the Tate gallery.
Narrow boats may soon cruise past Liverpool's famous Pier Head along a new half-mile stretch of canal that would be one of the first of its type to be built in Britain for 200 years.
In a scheme announced by British Waterways to coincide with the launch of the urban white paper, the £15m canal would link the terminus of the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Stanley Dock with the shops, museums and galleries at the Albert Dock.

The Albert Dock warehouses are clearly shown, as are the Stanley Locks of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
The Liverpool Maritime Museum is magnificent, the Albert Dock has plenty of bars and eating-places and there is a potential for a good day out.
Eventually the North Docks became outmoded and new facilities were to be built at Seaforth for ocean going containerships which could be turned around in 12 hours or less and with a labour force just a fraction of what was required for conventional cargo vessels.

 Frederick John Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After studying at Harrow and St John's College, Cambridge, Robinson entered Parliament in 1806, and served in various minor positions in the government of Lord Liverpool, including joint-Paymaster of the Forces, from which position he sponsored the Corn Laws of 1815, before entering the Cabinet in 1818 as President of the Board of Trade.
In 1827 he was raised to the peerage as Viscount Goderich, of Nocton in the County of Lincoln, and served as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies and Leader of the House of Lords in George Canning's short-lived government.
Lord and Lady Ripon are buried in the memorial chapel at All Saints' Church, Nocton.

These are Liverpool's oldest surviving docks, built on an area of land known as Mann Island in 1756; forty-one years after the town's first dock had opened.
The nearby 'runways' in the dock walls were used for sliding down the cast-iron 'kettles' of hot pitch, timber and other materials to the men at the bottom.

This dock was built on the approximate location of an earlier tidal passage into Canning Dock and is still essentially a passage, which can be entered or left at half-tide, now giving access to both Albert Dock and Canning Dock.
Usually moored alongside Graving Dock No.2, in Canning Half-Tide Dock is the tug Brocklebank and the Weaver packet Wincham, which are operated on behalf of the museum by the volunteers of the Wincham Preservation Society.
The dock tapers in plan from the south to the north and at the very north end is the narrow passage, which originally gave access to George's Dock.
