Things boomed in Cannons Creek for a few short years until major expansion took place at the main shopping centre at Porirua.
It was sited at the northern end of Cannons Creek School, where the entrance is to the park, for many years.

 Moores Creek National Battlefield (National Park Service)
This dramatic victory ended British authority in the colony and greatly influenced North Carolina to be the first colony to vote for independence.
The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, coupled with the Battle of Sullivans Island near Charleston, SC a few months later, ultimately led the 13 colonies to declare independence on July 4, 1776.
Throughout the park, remnants remain of the 1776 road traveled by patriot and loyalist forces.

Cannons Creek was one of 10 towns and two markets to gain funding for the Plastic Bag Free Town Challenge, a partnership between, Planet Ark, EcoRecycle Victoria and Regional Waste Management Groups.

They arrived in  Philadelphia in that year on the William and Sarah with records indicating that Johannes Bernhardt Liebenstein was 22 years old and Hans Martin Liebenstein was 24 years old.
   About 1750, Bernhardt Liebenstein moved to the Dutch Fork of SC.  His petition for land was heard at the meeting of 5 March 1749/50 of the SC Provincial Council.  He was granted a 350 acre tract on Cannons Creek near Prosperity, SC.
