Cantharidae needs to be further examined in relation to other taxa and sampled more thoroughly within a phylogenetic context before a taxonomic change is made.
The family Phengodidae is composed of bioluminescent species that commonly resemble fireflies in their general appearance and are usually also found to be sympatric with many firefly species.

Malthinine Cantharidae occur from Canada to Brazil in the New World, throughout the Palaearctic and Oriental regions, and south to central and eastern Africa, India and the East Indies, with Caccodes extending into the Pacific (including Hawaii).
No malthinines occur in Australia, and a single species of Malthodes (possibly introduced) is known from New Zealand.
According to Fender (1951), adults are often found on foliage in shaded situations.

The genus Malthodes is a group of very small (1.0-4.0 mm.) Soldier Beetles (Cantharidae: Malthinae) which, while abundant is certain habitats, are rather poorly known.
Seven species and subspecies are known from Atlantic Canada.

I think these are soldier beetles, Cantharidae, and not Longhorn Beetles, Cerambycidae.
