This is the second-largest surviving fragment of the Canyon Diablo meteorite that formed Meteor Crater; it probably broke off when the main mass hit the atmosphere.
Meteorite specialist Harvey Nininger discovered them in 1946 by attaching a magnet to the end of a cane and sweeping it around the crater.
This block of limestone, as tall as the height of this hall's ceiling, was thrown up during the explosive formation of the crater and landed several feet from the rim.

Thought I'd post a pic of a Canyon Diablo meteorite from Meteor Crater, Arizona - I bought this from Robert Haag well over 20 yrs ago.
I also have a couple of the Iron's from Canyon Diablo, but they are a bit smaller than yours.
I have heard over the years people have found them further down the canyon, but I also heard the area is surrounded by State Land and a lot of Private Ranches.
