His father Cao Yu (曹宇) was the Prince of Yan and one of the youngest sons of Cao Cao, the father of Cao Wei's first emperor, Cao Pi (Emperor Wen), who was considered (but ultimately rejected) as regent for the emperor Cao Fang by Cao Fang's father, Cao Rui (Emperor Ming), in 238.
Sima Yan (Emperor Wu of Jin) permitted Cao Huan to retain imperial banners and wagons and to worship ancestors with imperial ceremonies.

The Qin Cao discussed here in the main text is the most famous one, attributed to Cai Yong, and as found in the Pingjin Guan edition.
Both of these meanings can be found in the Qin Cao attributed to Cai Yong: it divides melodies into various types, one of which is the cao, or lament.
Thus, for quotations simply attributed to a Qin Cao that don't seem to refer to any of Cai Yong's versions (one must consider that they are from one of the other books of that name, all apparently lost.
