Cape Arid is also home to the endangered western ground parrot and it is visited by rare species such as the Australasian bittern, Carnaby's black cockatoo and the hooded plover (at Yokinup Bay which extends eastwards from the estuary).
Over 100 km north of Esperance is Peak Charles National Park, which centres on two ancient granite peaks - Peak Charles and Peak Eleanora.
This is a large remote park and, although access to the main campground (Thomas River) is quite unproblematic, most other tracks in the park (including those which lead to the other campgrounds) are crude 4WD tracks and access along these roads is dependent on the weather.

You guessed it, today we visited another national park, this time it was called the Cape Arid National Park.
We left the beach and then had out picnic lunch at some park benches, then it was off to Thomas River, Little Tagon, Tagon Bay, Tagon Point, then back on the dusty road to Cape Arid and the camping ground.
The park ranger came and told us a storm was approaching, and he was right with the dark coulds and windy conditions bringing the tmperature down to the mid 20's within minutes, so instead of swimming, we went for a long walk at the water's edge to the rocks.

When visiting the south rim of the Grand Canyon you may enter the park from the south at the south entrance station, which is a few miles north of the village of Tusayan, or from the east entrance station, near Desert View, out on the Desert View Drive.
