He has played 9 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers and one season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, as well as AHL games with the Binghamton Rangers and Cape Breton Oilers, and a single game with the New York Rangers.
He was drafted by the Rangers in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round, 164th overall.
He was acquired by the Oilers in a trade for Craig MacTavish (and in his last couple of seasons with the Oilers, had the distinction of being one of the few NHL players to be coached by an ex-player for whom he was once traded).

In 1980, when Gretzky and the Oilers were gunning for a playoff spot, they traded captain Ron Chipperfield at the trading deadline to the Quebec Nordiques for Ron Low; the veteran goalie they had been lacking.
So the Oilers hired George Burnett to be their coach, and that proved to be a mistake.
In the 1996/97 season, Ron Low led the Oilers into the playoffs after a remarkable regular season and it was there that Oilers upset the Stars in a memorable 7 game series.

The 1994-95 season was one of the most tumultuous in Oiler history.
To add to the confusion, the Oilers coaching staff received a major overhaul as general manager Glen Sather gave the coaching job to George Burnett, who was just 33 at the time.
Burnett was promoted from the American Hockey League, where he coached the Cape Breton Oilers from 1992-1994 and led the Edmonton farm club to a Calder Cup championship in 1993.

When Mike Krushelnyski walked out of the Edmonton Oilers' dressing room on October 4, 1995, he closed the door on a very respectable NHL career that spanned some 14 years with five teams.
But when the 35-year-old veteran of 897 regular-season games accepted GM Glen Sather's offer of a job as a playing assistant coach with the Cape Breton Oilers in the American Hockey League, he effectively said good-bye to the NHL and hello to his new career.
After moving "Mike K" and defenseman Craig Redmond to the Cape, the Oilers did not have a single 30-year-old in the line-up.

Shaun Van Allen was drafted 105th overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.
A standout with the WHL's Saskatoon Blades, Van Allen was placed in the team's minor league system for further seasoning, and his NHL debut came on February, 1991 against the New Jersey Devils.
