The movie has one very thrilling scene towards the end which I won't give away and after the movie, I was very pleased with this fantastic film.
The movie shows a tale of revenge, in which the bad guy is really evil at one scene but then you pitty him at the next.
Deniro is one of the best actors in movie history, and he is alot more frightening than the original max cady (the orginal movie is alot older but still an excellent film.

In the 1991 version, the final confrontation at the houseboat comes about as a result of the Bowden family trying to flee their small town after Cady has killed a private detective they had hired to guard their home.
Accordingly, he offered the Cape Fear job to Thompson, after Thompson had had an opportunity to read the book on which it was based and had indicated an interest in being involved.
Thompson creates suspense and fear by focusing on the actors' physical and facial reactions to situations, by using light and shadow effectively, and by using the technique of first appearing to defuse a tense situation by providing an innocent explanation, only to suddenly turn up the screws by suddenly returning to the originally expected explanation.

Cape Fear (1991 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cape Fear is a 1991 film, directed by Martin Scorsese.
It is a remake of the 1962 film of the same name and tells the story of a family man, a former public defender, whose family is threatened by a convicted rapist who wants vengeance for having been put in prison fourteen years before because of the lawyer's faulty defense tactics.
Although a remake of the original Cape Fear, Scorsese's update is also greatly influenced by another Mitchum film, The Night of the Hunter (1955), and the work of Alfred Hitchcock (signalled by the opening credits by regular Hitchcock collaborator Saul Bass and its score by another, Bernard Herrmann).

 Cape Fear (1962/1991)
The original Cape Fear is an effective fl and white thriller with a chilling score by the great Bernard Herrmann and an outstanding performance from Robert Mitchum, one of the few Hollywood stars of the time who would have consented to being cast as a vicious rapist who even preys upon Bowden’s teenage daughter.
The most intriguing aspect of the 1991 version is the way it pays homage to its source by dusting off Bernard Hermann’s excellent score in a newly recorded version by Elmer Bernstein, and by filling the cast with three performers from the original.
Perhaps Cape Fear was Scorcese’s way of thanking the studio for their support, and also a way to strengthen his own box-office power.

As Sam's family become increasingly terrified at this malevolent presence in their lives, the patriarch is caught in a legal straightjacket — nothing can be done to stop Cady's careful threat until he acts, and by then it may be too late.
With this narrative, Cape Fear, based on John D. MacDonald's pulp thriller The Executioners, is simply a lewd and sensational thriller no different in concept from the thousands of half-assed B-movies shown after 10 p.m.
Technically, the 1962 Cape Fear is an excellent accomplishment, full of vivid chiaroscuro lighting, superbly planned scenarios of sublimated tensions (including the super-taboo threat of sexual assault on a child), and a few eye-catching visual tricks.

The central thing that made Cape Fear so terrifying was that it was happening to a good man. A man who had done nothing wrong - he testified to something he saw, and that was nothing more than his civic duty.
When you altered the plot so that this man wasn't as good, when you made him the lawyer defending the criminal, and worse, when you made him guilty of suppressing evidence, you removed that central point.

For this remake of the classic film Cape Fear, Elmer Bernstein gives us a wonderful new rendition of the Bernard Herrmann classic score of the same name.
Cape Fear opens with a chilling "Main Title" that very quickly gets us into its mood, a dark and haunting piece that contains a string laden main theme that sounds a bit like Hermann's other famous horror score, Psycho.
The mood of the score remains the same throughout the rest of the album, pausing from time to time to build up suspense using strings and a smaller wind section that bookends each visitation of the main theme with what I affectionately term "stalking music."

Scorsese will release ''Gangs of New York'' -- an epic about the meanest Manhattan streets of the mid-1800s -- in December, so he ought to be busy and anxious: ''Gangs'' has been a quarter-century in the planning and, at a reported $90 million, nearly twice as expensive as any picture he's made before.
But his passion for film history is such that he recently took a day off from editing to hype the Philips wide-screen campaign -- an effort to spread the word (apparently not as obvious as a film buff would hope) that home viewers should watch movies as their directors envisioned.
You didn't make a wide-screen movie until 1991's ''Cape Fear,'' which you reedited for TV yourself.
