Cape Henry is a cape on the Atlantic shore of Virginia.
It is the southern boundary of the entrance to Chesapeake Bay, and is one of the Virginia Capes (along with Cape Charles).
The Cape Henry Memorial is located there, to commemorate The First Landing of the settlers that established Jamestown, as is the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse.

Cape Henry Memorial commemorates the first landfall at Cape Henry, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, of colonists bound for the Jamestown settlement.
The Memorial also over looks the scene of the Battle of the Virginia Capes, in which the French navy prevented the British from reinforcing General Cornwallis, and led to the American victory at Yorktown.
Cape Henry Memorial is within Fort Story Military Reservation, but is an isolated unit of Colonial National Historical Park.

The old Cape Henry Lighthouse is the third oldest lighthouse still standing in the United States and the oldest on the Chesapeake Bay.
The New Cape Henry Lighthouse is a 164-foot octagonal tower made up of masonry inner-walls and cast iron plated outer-walls, making it the tallest such lighthouse in the U.S. It has a first-order Fresnel lens and is painted in fl and white alternating vertical stripes.
The New Cape Henry Lighthouse is operated by the U.S. Coast Guard and continues to be an active aid to navigation.

Back in 1721, Alexander Spotswood — governor of the Virginia colony for the British — had an idea for a lighthouse to be built at Cape Henry, but it was 1774 before the colonies of Virginia and Maryland agreed to construct it.
In early 1790, George Washington made history by approving the construction of Cape Henry Light — the first to be authorized by the new government.
The second Cape Henry Light was finally lit on December 15, 1881 and the old light extinguished.

With the construction of the Cape Henry Lighthouse, the waters of the Chesapeake Bay became navigable and safe ensuring steady trade and commerce on the Virginia and Maryland coasts.
By November 1789, the Virginia General Assembly provided conveyance of the land "lying and being in the County of Princess Anne at the place commonly called the head land of Cape Henry" to the new government "for the purpose of building a lighthouse." Alexander Hamilton contracted with John McComb, Jr.
Today, the APVA opens the Cape Henry Lighthouse to the public during the spring, summer and fall.

In 1864 an inspector finally corroborated Latrobe’s observation, remarking that Cape Henry was endangered by its oil soaked wooden staircase, which was at this point "greatly decayed and insecure." The inspector recommended a cast iron spiral staircase, and this was subsequently installed.
It thereby became the predecessor of the Cape Henry Memorial, "to which its shadow will reach on a late summer afternoon." On June 18, 1930, the U.S. Congress ceded the light and land to the APVA, to be preserved in perpetuity as an historical landmark.
In 1939, the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse was selected as the site to celebrate 150 years of the Lighthouse Service, and it was this same year that lighthouse maintenance was transferred from the Treasury Department to the Coast Guard.

left little creek about 2pm, ran to cape henry wreck, anchored up.started fishing with fiddlers, caught a nice mixed bag of tog, triggerfish, sea bass and sheepshead.Ran to the tunnel for stripers after we ran out of bait, cast to the islands, caught a few small ones, nothing to brag about.
