At present (September 2006) there is 388 MW of operational wind farm capacity in South Australia (Starfish Hill, Wattle Point, Cathedral Rocks, Mt Millar, Lake Bonney Stage 1 and Canunda wind farms) and a further 253 MW (Hallett and Lake Bonney Stage 2) is under construction.
In April 2005 I visited the new Wattle Point wind farm on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia and was struck by the thought that, in some ways, wind turbines are to conventional power stations what sailing ships are to steam ships (or diesel powered ships).
South Australia, on the other hand, has the advantage of being much bigger than Denmark; a wind change on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula will take a long time to affect wind farms in the Mid North or along the SE coast.
