Situated mostly On the west side of North West Cape, the Cape Range National Park is a spectacular place of rugged limestone ranges, deep canyons and 50 km of pristine beaches.
Cape Range resulted from a gradual uplifting of the sea floor, fluctuating sea levels and the action of wind, rain and seaspray which weathered the range and plain.
Cape Range it self is largely inaccessible, but two roads run from the Learmonth- Exmouth Road into the range from the east.

The first part of the Cape Range National Park, covering an area of 13,424 ha, was gazetted a 'C' class reserve for the purpose of National Park on 9 October 1964 and was subsequently vested in the National Parks Board.
The area claimed in the application includes the whole of the Ningaloo Marine Park (Commonwealth and State Waters), and surrounding waters including the proposed extensions to the national Park, together with Exmouth Gulf, the Cape Range peninsula and extensive areas inland, in total some 338,000 km
In 1969 the park area was extended to 50,581 ha with the inclusion of the southern part of the Yardie Creek pastoral lease, occupying the western side of the peninsula between Tantabiddi Well and the northern boundary of Lyndon Location 97, the RAAF weapons range.

The area is well known for the striking contrast between the clear blue seas, coral reefs and sandy beaches of Ningaloo Marine Park, and the rugged scenery of Cape Range.
The northern boundary of the park is 39 kilometres from Exmouth by road, and the southern boundary is 70 kilometres north of Coral Bay.
The northern park boundary is 40 minutes from Exmouth, while the southern boundary is two hours along the coast from Coral Bay.

The eastern side of the Cape Range National Park is accessed from the Exmouth to Learmonth road south of Exmouth.
There are free pamphlets on the parks, including the park bird list, information on turtle nesting, etc. Note that there are daily entry fees for the park.
The walk from the final car park is scenic but there is very little in the way of birds.

Cape Range has some of the most stunning beaches you're likely to see, as well as a few interesting gorges such as Mundu Mundu and Yardie Creek, which aren't on the same scale as the monsters of Kalbarri or Karijini, but are pleasant to explore nonetheless.
If you're going up the Cape you have to follow the road that goes up the east side, passing through Exmouth and curling round the end of the Cape before finally coming down the west side and stopping at the southern end of the Park.
It was a nice little walk, though, along a mountain ridge to Shothole Canyon, a huge gorge beaten into the mountain range by a since dried-up river.
