Founded in 1954, Capital Normal University is a comprehensive normal university comprising specialties of liberal arts, science, foreign language, art and etc. Enjoying priority in terms of investment and construction as offered by Beijing Municipality, it is a municipality-level key university covered by " 211 Project".
In the past 49 years since its foundation, Capital Normal University has cultivated and trained more than 70,000 qualified teachers, with its graduates amounting to 57% of the teachers who holds bachelor degree in ordinary middle schools, and occupying 44.1% of all teachers in all key middle schools at city or district levels.
Owing to its abundant collection, the university library is one of the backbone libraries in terms of documentation and literature collection throughout the country.

 Report on China Study Abroad Program
It is a pioneering endeavor in the history of SSU to initiate and promote international exchange programs between the university and its Chinese counterparts by sending its students to China for their summer courses as well as by sending its presidential delegation to China.
The China Study Abroad Program was operated at Capital Normal University (CNU) in Beijing from July 8 to August 5, 2000, and was participated by nine students and two faculty members.
Each student received a detailed manual that introduced CNU campus, Yu Du Hotel where they would be staying, and a travel checklist in Beijing, in addition to a list of program schedule and activities.

The Chinese dean and associate professor in the department of English at Capital Normal University is familiar with the United States, this being the third educational exchange she has participated in.
As part of the Fulbright Occasional Lecturer Program, she made a presentation at the California University of Pennsylvania's women's studies department, "Changing Roles of Chinese Women: A Personal Account."
