The Winnipeg Capital Region is located in the southeast part of the province located along the Assiniboine and Red Rivers with the northern part of the region bounded by the south basin of Lake Winnipeg.
The 1996 population of the region was 706,000.
The region is made up of the City of Winnipeg (the province's capital and largest city), the City of Selkirk, Town of Stonewall and the Rural Municipalities of Cartier, East St. Paul, Headingley, Macdonald, Ritchot, Rockwood, Rosser, St. Andrews, St. Clements, St. Francois Xavier, Springfield, Tache and West St. Paul.

The Capital Region is predominantly French-speaking, about 85-90% of the population are French-speakers, and about 10-15% are Dutch-speakers, not to mention other languages of the many communities of migrant and EU-nationals.
The region, with a regional parliament of 89 members (72 French-speaking, 17 Dutch-speaking, parties are organised on a linguistic basis), plus a regional government, consisting of an officially linguistically neutral, but in practice French-speaking minister-president, two French-speaking and two Dutch-speaking ministers, one Dutch-speaking secretary of state and two French-speaking secretaries of state.

Copenhagen is the centre of the capital region, which also comprises cities and towns like Elsinore (60.000 inhabitants), Roskilde (53.000 inhabitants), Køge (39.000 inhabitants) and Hillerød (37.000) inhabitants.
The capital region is connected to southern Sweden by the Øresund Bridge, roughly 16 kilometres of combined tunnel and bridge between Copenhagen on the Danish side and Malmö on the Swedish side.
Together, the capital region and southern Sweden constitute the Øresund region with a total of 3.5 million inhabitants within a 100 kilometre radius.

 The Capital Region
Based on the Comptroller’s new 13-region economic model of Texas, employment in the Capital region (covering a 10-county area centered on the Austin and San Marcos metropolitan areas) is projected to grow at a 1.2 percent annual rate.
This indicates that although the Capital region has not yet achieved the level of dominance in some of these industries sufficient to merit the a structural dominance indicated by a location quotient, the region has shown a dominance in the growth of these industries supporting high tech manufacturing over the last 20 years.
Population in the region is expected to rise from 1,291,700 in 2000 to 1,452,500 in 2005.

SED authorized the study based on the results of a survey it was required under Education Law to conduct of the Capital Region BOCES, and the contiguous BOCES when a vacancy occurs in the Office of District Superintendent.
That survey indicated that the District Superintendent of ONC BOCES expressed interest in the four Schoharie County districts that are components of the Capital Region BOCES be transferred to that BOCES.
Students and staff representing Career and Tech, School Support Services, NERIC and Special Education showcased their programs at the Capital Region BOCES Annual Meeting on April 4 and the new format was a big hit with board members, administrators, teachers and staff who attended the event.
