The plane filed a flight plan from RDU to New Bern and from New Bern to Greenville and was on the last leg of the trip, from Greenville to Concord, when it crashed, according to Harnett County Sheriff Larry Knott.
The 1,800-foot-tall tower is owned by WRAL parent company Capitol Broadcasting and serves Fayetteville station WKFT-TV channel 40, which was off the air for several hours after the crash.
This is not the first time a Capitol Broadcasting TV tower has collapsed.

When WSUN was still a country station, we did a lot of remote broadcasts and appearances from a very popular country bar (which refused to die despite the end of several such bars in the "Urban Cowboy" wake) but it was always filled with our listeners: good, decent, hardworking people who wanted to party.

People still bitch and groan over money, egos and ideologies clash with programming philosophies and personality conflicts, and that radio broadcasting is still one, continuous swinging door that tosses away exceptional talent in the same, careless manner that one would discard a chicken bone at a picnic.
WINF 4 tower array is being rebuilt and soon will be back on the air (presently dark).....
