 Oil Crops: Sunflower
This paper reports the changes produced in the floret pattern in the capitulum of sunflower using the morphactin Chlorflurenol (CF1: 2-Chloro-9-Hydroxy-fluorene-9-Carboxylic acid) which main action, produced by the inhibition of IAA transport (Noodén and Noodén, 1985), is the reduction of meristematic growth (Schneider, 1970)".
Abstract: “As previously described a circular wounding procedure as applied to the young capitulum of the sunflower to isoalte a 1 mm diameter cylindrical plug of receptacle tissue in situ and stimulate the recapitulation on the plug surface of involucral bracts, ray and disc floret initials.
Abstract: “Using the young capitulum of Helianthus annuus L., a cylindrical plug of undifferentiated receptacle tissue, 1 mm in diameter, was isolated from lateral communication with the rest of the receptacle surface by a vertical circular wound cut, while retaining continuity with the subapical meristerm.

When the length of the capitulum is given it is measured from the tip of the hypostome to the "dorsal ridge" in the median line.
The capitulum articulates with the body via a cavity (the emargination in ixodids and the camerstome in argasids), and normally lies in the same plane as the body.
The hypostome is separated from the chelicerae in ixodids by a membrane and in argasids by the labrum.

  Avascular Necrosis and Related Disorders
Panner's disease is an osteochondrosis of the capitulum of the humerus, probably representing true osteonecrosis.
Detecting of the subchondral radiolucent band in the capitulum in early stages of this disorder is very similar to Legg-Calve-Perthes disease.
This abnormality is a similar phenomenon as the crescent sign, representing subchondral collapse indicating that osteonecrosis has occurred probably secondary to a traumatic insult with disruption of the blood supply to the bone.

Osteochondritis of the capitulum is termed Panners disease (or sometimes "little leaguer's elbow").
This appearance may make it difficult to differentiate from Osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow, but the latter usually occurs in older children after the ossification of the capitulum is completed, and in adults.
AP radiograph of the elbow demonstrates fragmentation and increased density of the capitulum, due to Panner's disease.

The seventh capitulum, ‘That God can do or forego only those things, or only in that manner, or at that time, in which he does, not in another’, and the seventeenth capitulum, ‘That God neither ought nor can prevent evil’, are similar, but Luscombe states that the latter cannot be found in Abelard’s writing.

The sunflower is actually an inflorescence called a head or capitulum; the center is composed of disk flowers, the edge has ray flowers that appear as petals.
The inflorescence matures from the edge toward the center--seeds are developing at the edge before the flowers in the center are even old enough to be pollinated.
The size of the capitulum is not predetermined; it expands to accommodate additional developing flowers.

Admixtures of different types of flowers are common in species that bear capitula or otherwise dense inflorescences [3,4] and probably reflect a selective advantage of this type of organization.
The gerbera capitulum apparently mimics a large single flower, with the brigthly colored, elongate ray flowers attracting pollinators to the center of the inflorescence where bisexual flowers are located.
Cylindrical wounding of early sunflower inflorescences to produce isolated plugs of capitulum receptacle tissue resulted in the development of complete, miniature capitula embedded within larger capitula [67,68].
