THE WAR AGAINST THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS ON - Engadget
Making a "special needs" keyboard that has a caps lock key is an indifferent argument, that would only raise costs (have you seen how much assistive peripherals are?) and file people with typing issues (carpal tunnel is not uncommon) into a corner.
The issue is hat the caps lock is a large key that is placed in prime keyboard real estate.
I agree that the left windows key should be banished, as well as scroll lock, and the insert key, but not the caps lock key.

The caps lock key, by default is only one key distance a way from the left little finger.
Pressing and holding what used to be the backspace key, but is now the caps lock, flickers the caps light, as repeat is set on that key.
Ralesk- The point, as you pointed out, is to move the caps lock away from the user, and put in it’s place a much more used key, in my case, the backspace.

The Caps Lock key 20 may be in an error state such that the Caps Lock key 20 is ON when the Caps Lock key 20 should be OFF, or such that the Caps Lock key 20 is OFF when the Caps Lock key 20 should be ON.

Adrian Sutton writes that the biggest reason not to move the control key to where Caps Lock is currently situated is that everyone (minus the UNIX geeks) knows where the control key already is. And that’s fine, I’d be okay with duplicating the control key.
In fact, according to Fitts law, the Caps Lock location is closer to where your hand normally is on the keyboard, making it easier to hit, instead of moving your pinky all the way down to the present location of control.
It is critically important to keep caps lock for accessibility reasons (think of someone with only one arm trying to type, much easier to hit caps lock to get capital letters and turn it off again).
