Im no expert of Renaissance history and I was sad to learn that this book is not historically accurate, but, as Susan said in her review, it captures the spirit of renaissance well, also, in my case, it succeeds in making people interested in learning more about that age, so give this book some credit.
The characters are well described and lovable, the scenes are vivid, the ending is heartbreaking, Alexandra Ripley can write romance in a way it never becomes syrupy.
