	Carcano Homepage: Italian Military Rifles and Carbines
		This set of WWW pages is dedicated to the Carcano, the main Italian military longarms system from its initial design in 1891 (the ministerial adoption followed in 1892) to the end of World War II and and even longer.
		The project has been undertaken in order to provide a concentrated online reference to the Carcano, and to dispell a lot of erroneous and non-fact-based hearsay, which has for too long a time confused the historical perception and evaluation of these rifles and carbines.

		The CARCANO bolt-action rifles are said to be between the most accurate weapons of that kind...
		Also, a CARCANO rifle was the weapon which was used for the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

	Modern Firearms - Paraviccini - Carcano M91 rifle (Mannlicher - Carcano)
		New pattern of the short Carcano rifle, adopted in 1938 as M38, was technically similar to M91 rifle, but had shorter barrel length, chambered for 7.35mm ammunition, and had fixed rear sights, set to 300 meters range.
		One historical note regarding Carcano rifles is that one such rifle, sold as surplus in USA, and fitted with 4X telescope sight, was apparently used by someone Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate President of USA J. Kennedy on November 22nd, 1963, in Dallas, TX.
		Carcano clip is different from original Mannlicher clip by not having particular "top" and "bottom" sides, so it can be loaded into magazine either side down.

		The bottom is a photocopy of a 91/38 short rifle, the model which Klein's supposedly sent to AJ Hidell.
		It is from an article on the Carcano in the August 1961 issue of American Rifleman.
		The Carcano on the top measures approximately 39" according to the tape in the photo.

	Firearms World War 2
		The Carcano 6.5 mm was the Italian standard rifle in World War 2.
		Four different types or rifle ammunition were found, French Lebel cartridges among them, which is typical for the chaotic state of the German armed forces in the last phase of the war.
		The Italian Carcano 6.5 mm ammunition bottom left and the German 8 mm K98k cartridges on the right belonged to the German forces.

		I don't know quite where the Carcano got a reputation as using an underpowered cartridge or having a weak action.
		The Carcano action is not a bad action.
		Quite a few were rebarrelled for German 7.9 toward the end of the war, and held together OK, though obviously the pressures exceeded the standard pressure for the action.

		I'm the owner of three Carcano carbines (a M38 and 2 M91s) and I once had a long rifle version.
		But back when I was an outdoors enthusiast on a tight budget, I bought one for $15 and carried it on some hiking and canoe trips; and I can tell you that the truth is somewhere between the traditional condemnation of this weapon and the more current praise.
		The Carcano is a great lightweight carry gun and although it's not a "bad" rifle it is still, in comparison, the "worst" battle rifle of World Wars I and II.

		Since they have no experience with guns and are leery to purchase a more expensive one, resurrected 'sporters' are a great way to introduce them to firearms in general and for some even hunting.
		The carcano is mild enough for even recoil sensitive types and with decent reloads they will put meat on the table!

		I have 2 Carcano TS models that were rechambered to fire the German 8mm rounds.
		There appears to be three distict usages of the Carcano by the Germans:(1) 6.5 impressed into German usage after 1943(much photographic evidence), Some have been found with German markings...these are also highly faked.
		You got it, BTW there's a gunshop right in your alley (Texas) that had some 8mm Carcano's a few years back for peanuts for at that time I picked up a beautiful TS model 6.5 with a nice blonde stock which is something I've never seen before.
