Carcassonne (Location: 43°13′N 02°22′E) (Carcassona in Occitan) is a fortified French town, in the Aude département, of which it is the préfecture, in the former province of Languedoc.
Carcassonne was struck from the roster of official fortifications under Napoleon and the Restauration, and the fortified cité of Carcassonne fell into such disrepair that the French government decided that it should be demolished.
The history of Carcassonne is re-told in fiction, in the novel Labyrinth by Kate Mosse.

Game play begins with the placement of a special starting tiles which includes a corner of a city, a straight road segment, and fields on either side of the road.
Although Carcassonne is always referred to as a tile-laying game, it's really closest in style to the traditional "pipe-laying" games, and thus ultimately derives from the "Dominos" family of game design.

Carcassonne is a very easy game to play, and best of all it is a great short game to play as a warm up game for a games night or a cool down game when you don't have time to play a longer game.
In a 2 player game you are more likely to get the tile you need than in a 5 player game, and you are more likely to get what you need if you need it early in the game than if you need it late in the game.
