Cardamom Mountains rain forests - Encyclopedia of Earth
It is separated from the nearest other rain forest by the vast, dry Khorat Plateau in central Thailand to the north and east and by the Gulf of Thailand in the west.
The Cardamom Mountain rain forests are considered by some to be one of the most species-rich and intact natural habitats in the region, but they are also one of the least explored.
A distinctive dwarf forest 5-10 meters in height is present on the acid and skeletal soils on the sandstone plateau of the southern Elephant Mountains.

Sitting astride the Cardamom Mountains and the Elephant Range in southwestern Cambodia and southeastern Thailand, and separated from other rain forests by the vast, dry Khorat Plateau, this ecoregion is relatively isolated and largely unexplored.
Shrubs, climbers, and lianas prosper in the dense understory.
The upper montane forests are less rich, but they do support patches of dwarf rain forest trees only half the height of their counterparts at lower elevations.

Tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests Summary
The layered communities of a tropical rain forest are directly related to the gradual lessening of light, from the brightness of the canopy to the dense shade of the forest floor.
The constant rain of detritus and litter that falls to the ground is quickly decomposed by populations of fungi and bacteria that flourish in the warm, moist environment.
Tropical rain forests are called the "jewel of the earth", the "Earth's lungs", and the "world's largest pharmacy" because of the large amount of natural medicines discovered there.

Western Ghats @ CES : Biology of Western Ghats
There are tropical evergreen forests in the central and southern regions; semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests, wherever left untouched, clothe the mountains almost all along their length; dry deciduous forests of teak and associated species clothe the coastal plains in the northern and central regions as also along the eastern rain-shadow slopes.
There are montane 'shola' forests, riverine or swamp forests and nearly half a dozen other evergreen-species associations, mostly observed in the southern half of the Zone, where numerous ancillary mountain ranges converge to produce a region of exceptional diversity.
The associated mountain ranges such as the Anamalais, the Nilgiris and the Agastyamalais are all separated by clear-cut barriers and besides the interesting floral speciation, a distinct faunal endemism and/or local speciation, is also found.

 Western Ghats Summary
The largest city within the mountains is the city of Pune, in the Desh region on the eastern edge of the range.
The mountains intercept the rain-bearing westerly monsoon winds, and are consequently an area of high rainfall, particularly on their western side.
The dense forests also contribute to the precipitation of the area by acting as a substrate for condensation of moist rising (orographic) winds from the sea, and releasing much of the moisture back into the air via transpiration, allowing it to later condense and fall again as rain.
