Cardiff currently still awards University of Wales degrees but for students admitted from 2005 these are planned to be replaced by Cardiff degrees except for medicine, dentistry and other health-related areas, which will begin to admit students for Cardiff degrees from 2006.
Cardiff University Students' Union is situated directly over the main railway going north from Cardiff to the Valleys, next door to the Cathays train station.

Cardiff was made a city in 1905 and proclaimed capital of Wales in 1955.
The city was county town of Glamorgan until council reorganisation in 1974 paired Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan together as the new administrative county of South Glamorgan.
Cardiff's centre is a particularly green one with Bute Park, formally the castle grounds, extending northwards from the top of the Cardiff's main shopping street (Queen Street); when combined with the adjacent Llandaff Fields to the northwest it produces a massive open space skirting the river Taff.

In 2003, Cardiff and the College of Medicine, which had for some years been collaborating closely, decided to merge with effect from 1 August 2004 under the formal title “Cardiff University” (a title which the University of Wales, Cardiff had for some years used as is “public name”).
Cardiff (which has for some years held but not used its own degree-awarding powers) has indicated that, with effect from 1 August 2005, it will begin to enrol students onto degree schemes that lead to the award of a Cardiff degree as opposed to a University of Wales degree.
However, because of the all-Wales role of the College of Medicine, Cardiff and UWCM wish to continue for the foreseeable future to enrol students onto University of Wales undergraduate degree schemes in medicine, dentistry and some related areas.

Project Co-ordinator, Dr Lucie Green, at Cardiff University's School of Physics and Astronomy, agreed that linking into the Faulkes Telescope project could provide schools with an exciting new science resource.
It is estimated that, each year, thousands of pupils, university students, and members of the public will use the Faulkes Telescopes.
The Faulkes Telescope project is funded by the Dill Faulkes Educational Trust, the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, the Department for Education and Skills and the University of Hawaii.

I was an active member of Cardiff University Running Club for 5 years (awarded colours in 91 and 95), captaining it in '93/4 during which we achieved our best ever results in many competitions.
I now compete for Cardiff AAC, whom I have represented since 1996 (to the present) in Divisions 1and2 of the British Athletics League, Trionfo Ligure in Italy and LG München in Germany.

After a year working as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Al Fateh, Sebha, in Libya, I was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and Phonetics at the Cardiff School of Speech Therapy (now part of the University of Wales Institute Cardiff) in 1978.
In 1987 I took up a post at the University of Glamorgan in Wales, and moved from there in 1991 to the University of Ulster at Jordanstown in Northern Ireland, where I taught on both the Speech and Language Therapy degree and the Linguistic Science degree.
In 2004 I was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists of London, UK, and an Honorary Professorship of the University of Wales.

They say nanobacteria are now accepted as being widely prevalent in the terrestrial environment and that their evidence is compelling for the existence of these nano-organisms, even in the stratosphere.
Their work corroborates the findings of Ruprecht Jaenicke, of the Institute for Atmospheric Physics at Mainz University, Germany, on bioaerosols (airborne contaminants) and proteins in the atmosphere reported in New Scientist (31 March) and Science (1 April).
The contribution of nanobacteria to pathogenic bioaerosols, in the view of the authors, must overwhelm all other types of biological particles in the atmosphere.
