William Carey Baptist missionary India - Giants of the Missionary Trail by Eugene M. Harrison
Carey's co-apprentice was John Warr, a devout young Dissenter or Non-conformist; that is, one who dissented from, and refused to conform to, the practices of the state church, the Church of England.
Carey was quick to reply, "I will venture to go down, but remember that you -- you who remain at home -- must hold the ropes." And by "holding the ropes" he was referring to the support of prayer and heart-concern, even more than of money.
Carey himself said that whatever success attended his efforts in India was due to the fact that he was a plodder.

It was by this means that Carey educated Great Britain and America to rise equal to the terrible trust of jointly creating a Christian Empire of India, and ultimately a series of self-governing Christian nations in Southern and Eastern Asia.
The influence of Carey and his work on individual men and women in his generation was even more marked, inasmuch as his humility kept him so often from magnifying his office and glorifying God as the example of Paul should have encouraged him to do.
Carey had previously written thus to Fuller:--"The fault lies in the clause which gives the Company power thus to send home interlopers, and is just as reasonable as one which should forbid all the people in England--a select few excepted--to look at the moon.

Lord Carey, who retired in 2002, said his earlier concerns came from an increasing frustration over the lack of dialogue between different faiths and cultures and ill-founded talk of a "clash of civilisations".
Carey is a good reason why the churches of Europe and North America are emptying out: they're led by people who's love is the praise of the drunken, cynical fools who run the major media amd social prestige, but who have no love for the Word of God.

Fontes - The Writings of Michael A. G. Haykin - William Carey
Carey was born of poor parents in 1761 in a tiny village called Paulerspury in the heart of Northamptonshire.
Carey proposed a theme on which he had been long ruminating: “Whether the command given to the apostles to teach all nations was not binding on all succeeding ministers, to the end of the world, seeing that the accompanying promise was of equal extent.” Carey’s question grew out of his reflection on Matthew 28:18-20.
Carey was a Calvinist, but an evangelical one, of the same ilk as John Bunyan (1628-1688), the powerful preacher of the previous century, Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758), the great New England theologian of revival, and George Whitefield (1714-1770), the leading evangelist of the eighteenth century.

Slant Magazine - Music Review: Mariah Carey: Butterfly
And blurry is how Carey appeared, at least early on, when what was most apparent about the woman's psyche was her work ethic (she averaged almost an album a year during the first half of the decade—an amazing feat compared to her diva counterparts).
But it came with a catch: Carey's over-emoting, her uncompromising voice that announced her music as primarily vocal and not the same equal-opportunity mesh of words and sounds that defines hip-hop-soul (looking at you and blowing kisses, Mary J.).
Carey's means may not be as astute as those of Meyer and Verhoeven, but her end has the head-spinning effect that the aforementioned auteurs ideally achieve: entertainment by any means necessary.

What the Carey Study Means to You
As stated in the Spine Letter, Dr. Carey discovered that "485 people -- in almost 11 percent of all households surveyed -- currently had been experiencing acute back pain." This means that a little over 6 percent of the population experiences limiting (debilitating) back pain each year.
Depending on which study you look at, up to 80 percent of the population will experience low back pain in their life.1 If you also included cervical pain, nearly 100 percent of the population would be affected.
Perhaps Dr. Carey will conduct another study ten years from now and discover that 24 percent of the population continues to seek medical care, 37 percent seek chiropractic care, and we still have another 37 percent to reach.
