The Caribbean Region is subject to numerous natural hazards, including earthquakes, volcanic activity, landslides, floods and severe weather systems such as hurricanes, tropical storms and drought.
CDB has established a Disaster Mitigation Desk in its Projects Department, which is responsible for the design, appraisal and implementation of the activities associated with the DMFC objectives.

 Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)
The CDB is a regional financial development institution established by an Agreement signed on October 18, 1969 by eighteen countries and territories, including all the then CARIFTA Member States, Belize (then British Honduras) and The Bahamas.
The purpose of the Caribbean Development Bank is 'to contribute to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean and to promote economic cooperation among them, having special and urgent regard for the needs of the less developed members of the region.'
CDB finances specific projects in national, sub-regional, or regional development programmes in such fields as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry, marketing, manufacturing, mining, refining, tourism, export services, transportation, housing, education, pure water, sewerage and infrastructure and services related to the development of those sectors of the economy, waste management, environment protection and poverty reduction.

THE 36TH annual conference of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Board of Governors ended on Friday, with the Caribbean financial giant welcoming the announcement that the way has been successfully paved for Haiti to become a full-fledged member.
Addressing journalists after the closing ceremony, the CDB president said the week of meetings "went extremely well", with a general commitment to improving the economic prospects and livelihood of the Caribbean people.
He observed that while the organisation had made progress towards reducing poverty in the region and building human resource capacity, there was still the looming existence of the challenge of poverty alleviation.

The Caribbean Development Bank was established in 1969 for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious economic growth and development of the Caribbean states.
CDB Member States are divided into four groups, and because of its large debt burden, low per capita income, and inadequate infrastructure, Guyana is the only member in Group 4.
