Carisbrook is a major sporting venue in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Carisbrook is found in the southwest of the city, and was named after the estate of early colonial settler James Macandrew (itself named after a castle in the Isle of Wight).
The stadium is home to Otago cricket, to the Otago rugby team in the National Provincial Championship and to the Highlanders Super 12 rugby team.

The Carisbrook Stadium Trust announced last night that it had all but abandoned the option to upgrade Carisbrook in favour of replacing the stadium.
Day-to-day management of the stadium would lie with the trust, which intended attracting concerts, other sports outside of rugby, and seminars to the facility.
It is expected the stadium would be completed by October 2010 and allow a full Super 14 rugby season to be played there before the World Cup.

On the August 9 2006, it was announced that the current incarnation of Carisbrook would be retired and that a new covered stadium, like the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff would be built.
Based in North Dunedin within the University of Otago vicinity, between Logan Park and the edge of the Otago Harbour, and close to the mouth of the Water of Leith the stadium would be expected to be ready for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

OPSA’s survey also elicited many comments from OP students that the proposed stadium was unaffordable to the city and its rate-payers, that Dunedin was too small for such a stadium to be financially viable, and that upgrading the current stadium would be preferable.
The majority of respondents did not believe a new stadium should be funded by rates or rent increases; 58% opted for a $0 increase in rates or rent to pay for a new stadium.
