Ebert has been afflicted with stomach ailment for a few years, and on Thursday evening, 14th, was seized with hemorrhage of the stomach, which caused his death.
Ebert was a widower and is survived by one daughter and three sons.

John Christie's original theatre, built on the side of the house, was enlarged and improved many times after its initial construction, and by the early 1990s it included a conglomeration of outbuildings housing restaurants, dressing rooms, storage and other facilities.

I would love to have been a fly buzzing around the lawns of Glyndebourne as John Christie expounded his operatic vision to the men who would become the artistic founding fathers of his festival: the producer Carl Ebert and the conductor Fritz Busch, two leading figures in Germany's operatic life until the advent of Hitler.
Born in 1903, he had worked in various German opera houses during the 1920s (he was one of the repetiteurs for the premiere of Wozzeck) before being engaged by Carl Ebert in Darmstadt and then Berlin.
Ebert's son Peter has described the way the two men would work together: Goldschmidt would play the score of an unfamiliar opera while Ebert père would stretch out on a sofa listening, taking notes and considering whether to produce the work in question.
