In Anerkennung seiner Leistungen und Verdienste wurde Loewe 1832 der Ehrendoktor der Universität Greifswald verliehen, 1837 wurde er zum ordentlichen Mitglied der Königlichen Akademie der Künste ernannt.
Loewes Leben nach 1850 verlief relativ ruhig und unauffällig, verschiedene Möglichkeiten anderweitiger künstlerischer Betätigung hatte er ausgeschlagen und stets das sichere städtische Amt in Stettin einer unsicheren Position als freiberuflicher Künstler vorgezogen.
Aufgrund von Unregelmäßigkeiten und Auseinandersetzungen mit städtischen Gremien wurde Loewe 1866 gezwungen, sein Amt in Stettin aufzugeben.

Loewe wuchs in Löbejün auf lernte zwei Jahre in Köthen und studierte als Gymnasiast in den Franckeschen Stiftungen in Halle, wo er in Giebichenstein J.F. Reichardt kennenlernte, der ihn für die damals blühende Kunst der Balladendichtung und -komposition zu begeistern wußte.
In der 1992 restaurierten Hospitalkapelle Sankt Cyriaci zu Löbejün wurde mit einem Streichkonzert ein würdiger Schlußpunkt der Konferenz in der Geburtsstadt Loewes gesetzt.Das Toschew Sextett (Halle-Leipzig) brachte neben Streichwerken von Loewe und Brahms bisher unentdecktes Tonmaterial der Schülerin Loewes, Emilie Mayer, zur Uraufführung.
