Long-lasting Limousins leave other breeds standing - Pikestone
Most of the land farmed by Carl and his wife, Julia, levels at between 1,150 and 1,200ft, with little protection from cold north easterly winds, snow and rain.
Carl's father quit milk production in the early 1970s when Charolais, Simmental and Limousin bulls were used - but the Limousin left the others standing, making more money.
The Stephensons had their best sale last autumn at Middleton in Teesdale when they sold 11 and 12 month old bullocks to average £620.

Starting out early in life gave Stephenson the experience to be accomplished in a variety of musical instruments, such as the violin, guitar, sitar, drums, keyboard and didgeridoo.
Stephenson puts forth unanswerable questions through his lyrics and plays with them, following a metaphorical path that does not lead to answers, but an understanding of the questions.
Stephenson's album answers the question: "What would it sound like if all the musical genres of the world united?" An endless array of electronic samples are coupled with bagpipes (yes, bagpipes), sitars, flutes and every other instrument imaginable.

'Forest' awakens to an old dream
In 1991, a man by the name of Carl Stephenson collaborated with then-no-name Beck Hansen to create Beck's novelty hit, "Loser." Soon after, Stephenson finished his own album for Geffen Records, but due to a mental illness and an ensuing hospitalization, the album was delayed for four years.
Stephenson called his project Forest for the Trees, and its first single, "Dream," has been doing quite well, despite being four years old.
The majority of Stephenson's work is loose, with vocals that seem separated from the melodies.

 The Naked Jungle (1954)
Plot: Joanna Selby travels deep inside the South American jungle to meet for the first time Carl Leningen, a man she has married by mail order and the owner of a vast plantation that covers 200,000 acres.
Stephenson’s short story is a classic straightforward adventure that tells of the encroachment of the ants across a man’s plantation — indeed the character of Joanna does not exist in the story.
In the film by contrast, the ants don’t arrive on the scene until two-thirds of the way through and the bulk of this version is taken up by the relationship between Charlton Heston and Eleanor Parker.

Although Forest For The Trees' debut is being hyped as the work of songwriter Carl Stephenson, who co-produced Beck's "Mellow Gold," the album itself is a severe disappointment for listeners hoping to discover Beck's creative blood-brother.
Stephenson's vision is myopic by comparison on this collection of grating, half-baked tracks.
The only redeeming feature is the single, "Dream," a catchy swath of sitar and bagpipes layered with pretty female vocals.
