Troll Haven is private property, but visitors are welcome to wander about the serene premises with it's imaginative creations.
It's a troll and the wording "Bandy's Trollhaven, Orchard & Angus since 1977." A marvelous carved double door at the barn's entry has a mischievous owl, a raccoon, a sort-of dragon monster and a Viking-helmeted troll.
And it goes on: a fanciful spectacular gate into a private orchard; a purple-robed troll in front of the magnificent castle; four trolls holding up a huge roofed building with their heads; a one-eyed troll at a reflecting pond; placidly grazing cattle and buffalo, plus so many other marvelous creatures scattered about the landscape.

In 1939, geographer Carl Troll (Bonn) coined the term "landscape ecology" after interpreting various aerial images portraying heterogeneous sections of the Earth's surface.
Troll saw landscape as a process whereby animated ecotopes ("landscape cells") joined together like a mosaic to form a structure which appeared uniform.
Troll's notion of a "system", the relationships between the ecotopes and between ecotopes, air, water and the Earth as elements, forms the basis of landscape ecology as a scientific, or, more fundamentally, a biological discipline.

The phrase 'landscape ecology' was first used in 1939 by the German geographer, Carl Troll.
Landscape has long been a unit of analysis and a conceptual centerpiece of geography, with scholars such as Carl Sauer and J. Jackson adept at "reading the landscape," including both the natural landscape of landforms and vegetation, and the cultural landscape as marked by human actions and as perceived by human minds.
The term “landscape ecology” is first attributed to the German geographer Carl Troll (1939).

 Chrono-Biographical Sketch: Carl Troll
Carl Troll was one of the twentieth century's most influential physical geographers, both as an innovative thinker and researcher, and as perhaps the single most important person helping to get German geography--once by far the world's leading school of thought on the subject--back on track after the years of Nazi domination of that country.
He was especially known for his work in periglacial geomorphology, glaciology, high altitude studies, air-photo interpretation, microclimatology, soil structure, ecozonation, plant physiognomy, and, in general, for his systems-level approach to his subjects.
An anti-Nazist, Troll managed to survive the war years and in 1947 established at his own expense the journal Erdkunde, a leading geography title (he would later found several more titles).
