Carl was a founding member of Birmingham's legendary pop group The Move and was lead singer for the world famous Hollies since 2000.
Carl Wayne was one of the leading figures in the Brum Beat music scene during the early 1960s, fronting his own band as Carl Wayne and The Vikings who were very well known locally.
Carl Wayne made many friends during his long career in the music business and was a very highly rated vocalist renowned for his high musical standards and professionalism.

Carl Wayne was born in Birmingham on August 18 1943, and became interested in music during his teenage years, becoming a fan of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Eddy Cochran and Gene Vincent.
Wayne nonetheless soldiered on, appearing in a string of musicals and persisting with singles, none of which troubled the charts; though Love Your Dog (A Dog is for Life) derived some support by being taken from the children's television programme Barney.

Carl Wayne (August 18, 1943 - August 31, 2004), real name Colin David Tooley, singer and actor, was best remembered as the lead vocalist of Birmingham rock group The Move during the 1960s.
Wayne's increasingly MOR style, and aspirations towards cabaret, were at odds with Wood's desire to experiment in a more progressive and classical direction, which would lead to the foundation of the Electric Light Orchestra.
Wayne also made a few recordings with the Electric Light Orchestra as guest vocalist, though these remained unreleased, until they appeared as bonus tracks on a remastered re-issue of the group's second album, ELO 2 in 2003.

Upon their return to Birmingham, Carl Wayne and The Vikings quickly established themselves as one of the city's top live acts along with Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders and The Spencer Davis Group.
After the cancellation of their record contract, Carl Wayne and The Vikings secured more bookings in Germany in early 1965, but before they were to leave, drummer Dave Hollis left and was replaced by Bev Bevan who had played in a well known local group called The Diplomats (see Denny Laine and The Diplomats).
Carl Wayne and The Vikings departed for Dusseldorf and Cologne but the working conditions in Germany were gruelling by this time and they soon returned to Birmingham and secured a residency at The Cedar Club on Constitution Hill.
