Carl Weiss - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carl Austin Weiss (December 6, 1906–September 8, 1935) was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1906.
It is speculated that Weiss, after visiting Germany earlier in 1935, saw possible parallels between Huey Long and Adolf Hitler and was determined to stop a potential dictator.
Weiss was fatally shot by Long's guards (filling his body with as much as fifty bullets) and died at the scene.

Paul Alfred Weiss, March 21, 1898—September 8, 1989 | By Jane Overton | Biographical Memoirs
During the period in which Weiss worked in Europe he initiated research in several areas that he was to return to later, most notably in cellular differentiation during regeneration, neural coordination of movement, and patterns of cell growth in tissue culture.
Weiss continued his studies of coordination of grafted limbs, comparing the movement of graft and control limbs using slow motion cinematography to identify the time of onset and duration of key muscles controlling each joint.
Jane Oppenheimer reports that in 1950 Weiss was asked at an informal gathering why he worked so hard and was overheard to reply that his reason for wishing to be a good embryologist was that by doing so he might help repay the United States for what it had done for him.

 People v. Weiss
Weiss was taken back to his house, which the officers entered and secured pending the issuance of a search warrant.
Weiss submitted supplemental points and authorities, arguing that Koch, supra, required the court to go further and determine whether the search behind the house had affected either the officers’ decision to seek a warrant or the magistrate’s decision to grant the warrant.
Weiss had conceded at the hearing on his motion that the officers would have sought the warrant even if they had not looked beneath his house.

Louisiana History - Long's alleged assassin wasn't armed
BATON ROUGE -- Dr. Carl Weiss, the man who allegedly gunned down U.S. Sen. Huey P. Long in 1935, threw a punch and hit the controversial former Louisiana governor on the lip, but Weiss was unarmed at the time, according to Dr. Donald A. Pavy of New Iberia.
Weiss was in the Capitol corridor where Long was shot, but Pavy says he was only there to confront Long about how unfairly he treated others.
He said it was retrieved from Weiss' car and placed there after the shooting, "but only after crime photos had been taken." Dr. Tom Ed Weiss, Carl Weiss' brother, said he saw his brother's car in front of the capitol and a gun in a sock in the glove pocket.
