Charles XV of Sweden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carl XV (Carl Ludvig Eugén) (May 3, 1826 – August 19, 1872) was King of Sweden and Norway (where he was known as Carl IV) from 1859 until his death.
Charles XV was highly gifted in many directions.
The young Prince of Denmark became christened as grandfather Charles' namesake, and in 1905 this grandson, Prince Carl of Denmark, ascended the throne of Norway, becoming thus his maternal grandfather's successor in that country, and assumed the reign name Haakon VII.

See 18.21 - Oscar was the son of King Carl XIV Johan of Sweden (born Jean Baptiste Bernadotte) who was selected as the future King of Sweden in 1810, finally becoming King in 1818.
The change in the Constitution was retroactive enabling Carl XVI Gustaf's daughter Victoria to take the place of her younger brother Carl Philip as heir to the throne.
Carl assumed the surname Bernadotte and was created Prince Bernadotte (ad personam) in 1937 by his brother-in-law King Leopold III of Belgium (see note below).

King Carl XV. Of Sweden And Norway
Carl XV., of Sweden and Norway, came towards me; I advanced at once, but had hardly time to bow, when he extended his hands and gave me a warm greeting, saying that he was very glad to see me in Sweden.
He went under the name of "Good King Carl." His best friends were among the peasants and the lowly; many a Swede has told me that they thought that since the time of the Wasas there had not been a sovereign so much regretted.
He was loved in spite of all his faults ; popularity he never courted, for he was in-dependent, and hated state ceremony ; and it was that very independence which made him dear to the masses : they loved his simplicity of manner, his kindness of heart, his frankness, and even his abruptness.
