Many of his poems have been set to music by David Bedford.
Composer Kyle Gann has set his voice reading a text to music (see below) and violinist Carla Kihlstedt set a text on the "Patchen" track of her solo Tzadik release Two Foot Yard.
He was an influence on the beat movement.

Really good, herky-jerky combination of odd time signature-laden art rock with the best/most musical aspects of no-wave, this ends up sounding a little bit like a more hyper-complex modern version of The Stick Men.
There are musical appearances by Carla Kihlstedt-violin (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), Ross Bonadonna-sax, Tim Byrnes-trumpet and Stephen Gauci-sax.
The CD is great and they rock live too.

Staiano (junkyard percussion), Carla Kihlstedt (violin, vocals, homemade gear), Frank Grau (drums), Nils Frykdahl (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rathbun (bass, vocals, homemade gear).
Vocally, Nils' scratchy bass-baritone sounds a bit like Peter Hammill singing heavy metal, while Carla's harsh soprano resembles Dagmar without the German accent (Dan's decent but less-striking voice handles mostly backups).
