Carlow University is a Catholic university and was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 24th, 1929 by the Sisters of Mercy from Carlow, Ireland.
Called "A.J.P." by students, this building is the the newest additon to Carlow, built in 1997 (opened in 1999) with state of the art laboratory equiptment, several computer labs, and a greenhouse.
Carlow University is unique in that on it's campus, there is a chapel.

Carlow College, Pittsburg, founded by the Mercy Sisters in 1929 took its name from Carlow from where Mother Frances Mary Warde set out for the US in 1843.
The Carlow College crest consists of a large shield with an oak tree resting on it and underneath a scroll with the legend Rescissa Vegetior Assurgit which means "cut back, it burgeons all the more".

When she graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from Mount Mercy College -- now Carlow -- in 1935, it was the start of a long and fruitful association with the Catholic all-girls college in Oakland.

Pittsburgh, PA - The Chatham College soccer team won its season opening game over Carlow College with an overtime goal by first year player Abbie Lovell.
Carlow came back to tie the game just before half time when they were awarded a penalty kick at the 43:40 mark.
In the second half Carlow had five shots on goal compared to none for the Cougars, but Chatham goal keeper Alexa Pontzer kept Carlow out of the net for the rest of the game.
