Well anyway, onto Carlsbad, New Mexico it was after stopping several different places for propane fuel (nothing was open or they didn't have a certified person able to fill our tank.) After stopping at Fort Stockton to see the historic fort, eat lunch and top of the truck tank we continued north.
New Mexico was the only state so far that didn't have a Visitor Welcome Center just across the state line.
Carlsbad Caverns were 45 miles from our campsite, but that didn't matter because we were on the bike.

Carlsbad, the "Oasis on the Pecos" is a pleasant and scenic little town sitting at the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert.
Carlsbad is a slowly growing retirement center and provides decent shopping and dining with a laid-back style of life.
My two favorite places in Carlsbad are the Living Desert State Park on the edge of town, and the Fiesta Drive In, one of the very few drive-in movies left in the country.
