Carmarthen HArriers and District Athletics club History
The Carmarthen and District Harriers Athletics Club was formed in April 1948 at the Dolwar Café in Blue Street Carmarthen with Ron B Evans and Ernie Jones as its founder members.
Carmarthen Harriers had a very strong Welsh senior men’s team in the 1960’s and 1970’s and at one time all the three-quarter backs of the Welsh rugby team were members of the Harriers senior relay teams; such was Ron Evans’ persuasive powers.
Ron Evans was Chairman of Carmarthen Harriers for 34 years and for several years was Chairman of the Welsh AAA and also in 1966 President of the Welsh Cross Country Association.

 DEMETAE
There are only two places of note in the Roman administrative district, both of which are attributed to the tribe by Ptolemy (vide infra); the (Flavian?) fort at Moridunum (Carmarthen, Dyfed) and the gold mines at Dolaucothi.
The only Romano-British settlement of note within the demesne of the Demetae was the vicus or roadside settlement outside the fort at Moridunum (Carmarthen, Dyfed).
During the Late Pre-Roman Iron-Age the Demetae tribe inhabited a territory roughly equatable with the modern county of Dyfed.

The Deposit Draft of the Carmarthen District Local Plan excluded the area from the settlement limits of Carmarthen, however an outline planning application for 35 dwellings was submitted on land which included this current application site in 1996.
It has not been satisfactorily demonstrated that additional volumes of traffic using this junction as a consequence of the proposed development will not contribute to increasing the possibility of an accident occurring; this is contrary to Government Guidelines and the Council's aims to decrease the number of accidents occurring each year.
Outline planning consent is sought for the siting of 20 dwellings on a 1.33 hectare (3.28 acres), area of sloping land, located immediately adjoining the northern boundary of the Parc-y-Delyn residential estate.

From this period the kingdom of Dynevor, in consequence of civil dissensions, fomented by the Norman monarchs of England, and the encroachments of the Norman barons, rapidly declined in power and extent, and was soon reduced withill the boundaries of the present counties of Carmarthen and Cardigan.
Foulke and the young lords assaulted the castle with such vigour, that the next day the garrison surrendered, on condition of being allowed to depart with their arms; and the remainder of the district submitted without resistance.
Nearly the whole of the surface of Carmarthenshire is hilly, but it seldom attains a mountainous elevation: by far the greater portion is comprised in the slate tract of South Wales, which occupies all the northern part of the county, from Cwm y Dwr and the river Tywi to its northern and western confines.
