Carmen Covito, one of the "new" Italian authors of the 1990s, reflects the ideology of her "generation" of writers in her interest in transformations and the possibilities of "contamination" between genres, modes of writing, multimodal productions of literary works.
Covito, who was among the first Italian authors to have an internet site, notes that our postmodern era is particularly concerned with multiplicity, with equalized and decentralized authority, which is actually reflected in the structure of the World Wide Web.
The second part of the paper provides an example of a contemporary Italian woman writer, Carmen Covito, who promotes the interactive dimension, the "layering" or "branching" possibilities of hypertext. The aim of the paper is to assess, through the case study, to what extent choosing to write/publish "electronically" influences the literary direction of a writer.

Covito notes that our postmodern era is particularly concerned with multiplicity, with equalized and decentralized authority, which is actually reflected in the structure of the World Wide Web.
She explains that one of her objectives in writing this novel was to combine the use of a "neo-Italian" spoken language, which increasingly makes use of jargon and modes of expression from telecommunication, with the uses of literariness.
Covito is effectively creating a hypertextual environment by weaving a writing space that is more personal than the standard sheet of paper.

If Literature is still to have a cognitive function, instead of being reduced to sheer entertainment and escapism, if it is to regain the role it once enjoyed as the favoured channel of interpretation of the world in which we live, then it can no longer hold itself aloof from other media.
When the majority of other women find out that this is not an environment for men only, and that you don't need a specific technical/scientific "calling" to get started, then the fear of "wasting time" will disappear from our mentality, too, and we can all start having a lot of highly productive fun.
