  Heenan--Heteroblasty in the Carmichaelia complex
Heteroblasty in Carmichaelia, Chordospartium, Corallospartium, and Notospartium (Fabaceae - Galegeae) from New Zealand
Transition from the juvenile to the adult occurs in the first year after seed germination and is marked by an abrupt change in stem habit and morphology and in leafiness.
Leaf-heteroblasty occurs in Chordospartium, Corallospartium, and Notospartium, whereas the leaves of Carmichaelia are usually of similar shape on juvenile and adult plants.

Carmichaelia williamsii and Clianthus puniceus are well established garden plants with attractive and conspicuous flowers, and are easily propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings or seed.
Hebe speciosa, Carmichaelia williamsii, and Clianthus puniceus grow in an open position, or they can be deliberately planted in partial-shade for frost protection.

 Heenan--Carmichaelia circumscription
Abstract The circumscription of Carmichaelia is emended to accommodate Chordospartium, Corallospartium, and Notospartium following the recommendations made in a recent phylogenetic study of the group.
Accordingly, Carmichaelia crassicaule is reinstated and the following new combinations are made: Carmichaelia carmichaeliae, Carmichaelia glabrescens, Carmichaelia muritai, Carmichaelia stevensonii, and Carmichaelia torulosa.
A dichotomous key is presented to the 23 species of Carmichaelia that are indigenous to New Zealand.
