Peter Lovat Fraser, Baron Fraser of Carmyllie, PC, QC (b.
In 1982 he was appointed Solicitor General for Scotland by Margaret Thatcher and became Lord Advocate in 1989, when he was made a life peer (as Baron Fraser of Carmyllie, of Carmyllie in the District of Angus) and a member of the Privy Council.
During his time as Scotland's senior law officer, he was directly responsible for the conduct of the investigation into the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.

The soil, on the banks of the streams, is a fine deep alluvium; on some of the acclivities, is of a dry, light-coloured, friable character; and elsewhere is mostly fine fl vegetable mould, but wet and spongy, on a tilly or gravelly bottom.
Remains of a noted tumulus are near the summit of Carmyllie Hill; vestiges of an ancient camp are in Guynd Den; and several urns and stone coffins have been found.
Formed in 1609 out of portions of Panbride, St Vigeans, and Inverkeilor parishes, Carmyllie is in the presbytery of Arbroath and synod of Angus and Mearns; the living is worth £217.

LONDON (CWNews.com) - The Prime Minister's office has denied rumors that the British government is ready to consider lifting the 300-year-old ban on Catholics ascending the throne or marrying a reigning monarch.
Lord Fraser of Carmyllie and Lord Forsyth of Drumlean have said they will present a bill in the new session of Parliament.
Lord Forsyth said: "Lord Fraser and I will be introducing a bill in the House of Lords to amend the Act of Settlement so that it ends the anomaly whereby it is perfectly legal for the monarch to marry a Buddhist, a Hindu, or even a Moonie, but not a Roman Catholic."
