NEW YORK, Spring, 2002-Bank Street College of Education has been selected to submit a proposal to participate in a Carnegie Corporation of New York landmark initiative, Teachers for a New Era.
In all, Carnegie Corporation has committed more than $30 million for the initiative at a total of six institutions; in addition to making two awards this year, in each of the next two years the Corporation will ask two additional universities to submit proposals.
In addition to being recognized by the Carnegie Corporation, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) recently accredited Bank Street College of Education at the initial teacher preparation and the advanced education levels.

Carnegie libraries--public libraries built between 1886 and 1917 with funds provided either by Andrew Carnegie personally or by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (the foundation he established in 1911)--are among the most numerous public buildings in the United States.
Efficiency was the operative word, both for Carnegie and for the professional librarians who advised him, and their goal was to allow a single librarian to supervise the entire library.

This third class of Carnegie Scholars will explore issues critical to civil society and terrorism, multicultural challenge in liberal democracies, ethnic conflict in Europe, race in American life, representative democracy, comparative development, constitutional configurations of the past, color-blind affirmative action, the sociology of military strategy and threat assessment, and the history of foreign aid.

Beginning in the fall of 2001 when the second phase is launched, Carnegie Corporation anticipates committing $40 million over five years in direct grants, which will require a one-to-one match from public or private funds.
