 UP-The Union Pacific Railroad Museum
The generous grant allowed Council Bluffs to construct one of the largest Carnegie libraries in the state in the beautiful and unique Beaux Arts style.
Flooded with pleas to preserve the Carnegie Library for public use, the City of Council Bluffs challenged the Friends of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum to raise $3.5 million to restore the building and establish a home for Union Pacific's Historical Collection.
The restoration of the historic Carnegie Library and the development of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum create a tourist destination in the heart of the Council Bluffs historic district and preserve an important part of the city's rich heritage.

Acknowledgment is also made to the members of the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council Advisory Committee on Women's Clothing, who selected Miss Hattie Carnegie as the designer of the present women's uniform and who provided advice and assistance on all elements of the women's uniform design as originally adopted.
Recognition is also merited by the members of the National Academy of Science-National Research Council Advisory Committee on Men's Military Clothing, who reviewed all possible approaches to an improved uniform and recommended the color and design which were finally adopted.

The restoration of the historic Carnegie Library and the development of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum create a tourist destination in the heart of the Council Bluffs historic district and preserve an important part of the city's rich heritage.

Carnegie's subdivisions had co-incided with Caulfield council's concern with town planning, chiefly brought about by councillor (Sir) Frederick Eggleston (1909-20), and allotments were deliberately large.
In May, 1909, the railway station was renamed Carnegie, allegedly with the support of residents and the progress associations who thought it would be an inducement to obtain funds from the American Carnegie Foundation for a library.
A large part of pastoral Carnegie was the Leman Swamp, a place for peat extraction and, in 1874, a proposed site for sugar beet processing which needed a reliable water supply.

Architecture Professor Douglas Cooper has created murals for Frankfurt am Main in Germany, the University Center at Carnegie Mellon and the main lobby of the Philadelphia Courthouse to name a few.
PITTSBURGH—Douglas Cooper, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Architecture, recently completed a mural in the lobby of the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle, Washington.
Cooper became involved with the project after he won a King County Arts Council national competition called 4 Culture.

 MELTON CARNEGIE MUSEUM
The former Carnegie Library was refurbished and opened by Leicestershire County Council in 1977 as the Melton Carnegie Museum.
In 1983 the National Museum of Hunting Trust was established, with the hope that, with Melton being a world-renowned centre of hunting -- the Melton building could eventually incorporate material on hunting.
The Museum is open from 10.30am to 4.00pm, seven days a week -- closed only on Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Dr. Richard A. Meserve became the ninth president of the Carnegie Institution in April 2003, after stepping down as chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Meserve serves on the board of directors of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Universities Research Association, Inc., and on the Council of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Carnegie Mellon has 9,500 students, more than 3,900 staff, much government funding, and a great track record in computer-security research.
When he was governor of Pennsylvania, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge worked with Cohon and other university leaders to grow companies and jobs from the universities' research centers.
He and his panel will also ensure that the university sector is heard when officials are debating such security measures as additional visa restrictions on foreign students, and restrictions on the easy exchange of information among leading-edge researchers, he said.

Walter Van Dyke Bingham (1880-1952) pioneered in psychological research at Carnegie Institute of Technology during the early decades of the twentieth century.
