The décor is much toned down from earlier Carnival ships - though the usual touches of wild, contrasting patterns in carpet and other fabrics, and loud, darkish colors still abound; there is less neon, and even almost a touch of elegance in a few spots around the ship.
The pool area has a smaller main pool than smaller Carnival ships (there is an additional one at the stern) and resembles the Roman Coliseum (intentionally?), with terraced areas for deck chairs rising to the next deck level.
The two musical shows were what I would expect from Carnival: lots of flash (there is even a laser light show at the end), wonderful costumes, lots of energy and fun, and pretty good singers and dancers.

On March 9, 2003 my wife and I boarded the Carnival Destiny on a seven day southern Caribbean cruise; this was our fourth trip on a Carnival ship and while we had a nice time I am sorry to say this was NOT one of our best experiences with Carnival Cruise Lines.
About ¾’s of the way to the counters our line merged with another mystery luggage line, merging onto a highway in a car is no challenge, merging with 6 pieces of luggage and a couple of hundred hot irritated humans is a major challenge.
No representatives from Carnival available where we were dropped off and the representatives boarding new passengers had no idea what was going on (and were not in a big rush to offer any assistance).

Carnival will adopt a policy to close the dining room 15 minutes after the said dinnertime.

Don't know about Destiny, but on the Holiday, I had a cabin w/porthole third from front of ship.
Carnival wants $499 pp from Chicago- I can do my own, get a non-stop on American for a little over $300pp, and buy transfers for $30pp.

Passengers on the cancelled sailing were given a full refund, a 50 percent discount toward a future three- or four-day cruise, and a $100 shipboard credit.

We sailed the Carnival Destiny Feb.1-8, 1998, on the eastern Carribean itinerary.
As first time cruisers, we were unsure of what to expect, but Carnival and the Carnival Destiny really exceeded our expectations!
The evening entertainment is varied for any taste in any of the many different lounges along the promenade and "Destiny's Way." The shore excursions were great, too, and most are planned so that if you are so inclined you can take one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
