		Carnival of Souls, the bastard stepchild to Night of the Living Dead, is often left in the shadows and forgotten about.
		Filmed on an extremely modest budget, Carnival of Souls tells the story of Mary Henry (Candace Hilligoss) who is thrust into a nightmarish world after a horrible car accident.
		Carnival of Souls still holds on and is just as effective today as it was almost 40 years ago.

		Carnival of Souls is one of my favorite kinds of movie - the low budget horror film that manages to unnerve, and create a world of mystery and possibilities despite - and sometimes even because of - its lack of funding.

		These means that the framing through much of the films is quite awkward: at times the character who is speaking barely on the screen, and at other times the balance of the scene looks off, or the close-ups are uncomfortably close.
		Of course, the new adaptation stays much closer to the book than the earlier film (though it does add the series regulars Inspector Japp, Colonel Hastings and Miss Lemon, who were not in the book), and despite the fact that Ustinov made an enjoyable Poirot, Suchet is simply unparalleled in the role.
		Unfortunately, as with the other recent Poirot films, while it has obviously been filmed in widescreen for British television, A&E is offering a full-screen version on their disc.
