I've been growing carnivorous plants since I was about twelve, as I've always enjoyed the fact that they are the plants that manage to get their own back on bastard animals.
Rapid plant movement can be due to actual rapid growth (thigmotropism), or it can be due to rapid changes in cell turgor (thigmonasty), which allow cells to expand or contract by quickly altering their water content.
These plants have just used the urn that is a fundamental part of the structure of a bromeliad for a new purpose, and built on it by the production of wax, enzymes and the other paraphernalia of carnivory.
