Carolina was just a few minutes away from losing to the Atlanta Beat and being eliminated from post-season play.

While it was a cold night and many of the fans came to see Mia Hamm, did not even get the chance to see her play as she was just cleared three days ago to participate with the team in practice.
The night game against the courage was just the cap to a day of games that included many local and national college teams that were helping a great cause in raising money to benefit breast cancer and to help with awareness programs.

Freedom super-sub Mia Hamm scored the game's final, and most spectacular goal, but her effectiveness was limited when the Courage struck twice in five minutes to open up a 3-1 lead.
Hamm came on for Ann Cook in the second half, but it was the Courage that stole the show at the other side of the break.
