Augusta, coached by former University of South Carolina quarterback Mike Hold, dominated with an offense led by quarterback Glen Gauntt that bordered on perfection and a defense that confused rookie quarterback Caleb Slover and manhandled Carolina receivers.
Carolina's Mal Lawyer returned the opening kickoff to the Augusta 21, and the Rhinos went down the field and scored on a 1-yard run by Slover.
Carolina had a chance to increase its advantage just minutes later after Robert Garth recovered Undre Williams' fumble at the Augusta 22.

On paper, the Carolina Rhinos’ season had been declared a disaster several weeks ago.
With nothing but the joy of competing to play for, the Rhinos found the chutzpah to outlast an indoor football team that supposedly had them out-manned.
By losing to Carolina, while the ‘Cats did their job and killed the mouse (Charleston), Richmond dropped to a game behind Cape Fear, assuring itself of having to schlep its way down Interstate 95 to Fayetteville, NC, in an effort to keep its season alive.

 July 30 Rhinos Storm Past Talons, 65-39
TULSA, OK - The Carolina Rhinos took only two plays to jump out to a 14-0 lead, and the Talons never recovered, dropping their first-round af2 playoff game, 65-39, in front of the smallest crowd at the Convention Center all year.
The Rhinos made it 28-7 on a TD pass from Sullivan to Scott to start the second quarter before Keonte Golson provided the spark the Talons were desperately in need of.
Carolina moves on to face the defending af2 champions, Quad City, whose only loss on the year came at the hands of the Tulsa Talons, 49-47, early in the season.

Augusta quarterback Glen Gauntt was 21 of 38 for 274 yards and six touchdowns and Tim Dumas overcame a separated shoulder to record eight catches for 110 yards and two scores to lead the Stallions to a 47-35 win against the Carolina Rhinos at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
After Dirk Lincicome rushed for a score and Gauntt found Dumas for an 11-yard touchdown to put the Stallions ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Rhinos (0-3) got the best of the Stallions defense, which ranks 32nd in pass defense, 29th in total defense and 19th in scoring in the league.
Behind two rushing scores by quarterback Caleb Slover and a nice 42-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Derricott, Carolina made its comeback in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 28-21 with 31.4 seconds left in the first half.
