In Fox's new dramedy Wonderfalls, Caroline Dhavernas plays Jaye Tyler, a disaffected 24-year-old with a philosophy degree from Brown and a souvenir-shop job in Niagara Falls, a town, of course, that straddles the line between the USA and Canada.
These days Dhavernas, 25, also finds herself dipping into both cultures as the Montreal native plunges more deeply into the American acting scene, so much so that she has had to Americanize the pronunciation of her last name to da-VERNA.
(Dhavernas' actor parents put her in an English school when she was 7.) She started working in English about six years ago and eventually landed a part in the 2001 Disney film Out Cold.

The daughter of actors, bilingual Dhavernas started out in show business by dubbing French dialogue for movies like "Young Frankenstein" and "10 Things I Hate About You." While attending high school she appeared in Canadian TV movies, then moved three years ago to New York.
During the filming of "The Baroness and the Pig," Dhavernas struck up a friendship with actress Patricia Clarkson, who introduced Dhavernas to her agent, who, in turn, set up the "Wonderfalls" audition in Los Angeles.
Since Dhavernas comes across as a sincere, goal-oriented person who doesn't have much in common with her character, you have to wonder about the source of the pitch-perfect "drop dead" attitude she embodies onscreen.

dOc DVD Review: Edge of Madness (aka A Wilderness Station) (2002)
Caroline Dhavernas is Annie, a young French-Canadian woman who, as the film opens, is seen staggering through the frozen wilderness, eventually stumbling across a small outpost where she announces that she has murdered her husband.
Even with heapings of unpleasant and bad things that happen to her character, Dhavernas is particularly excellent in the lead role, and her impish, downturned smile is nothing but completely infectious.
Caroline Dhavernas's Annie is both adorably fragile and rugged, and hers is one of those beautifully balanced and engaging performances that merits making this at least worthy of a rental.

Like another reviewer I only came upon this film after looking into the work of Caroline Dhavernas, a tremendously beautiful and talented actress largely (and sadly) unknown to US audiences.
Brendan Frehr is both believable and despicable as the tormentor of Dhavernas' character, and Anne Wheeler did an outstanding job directing the talented young cast in such a challenging environment.
The resilient young woman is the center of two plots and her determination is made plausible by the immensely talented Caroline Dhavernas, and palatable with her offbeat beauty and lovely French-Canadian accent.

Caroline Dhavernas was first introduced to U.S. television viewers through FOX's short-lived series Wonderfalls, but she's got quite the following in her native Canada ("like Britney Spears," says co-star Katie Finneran, much to Caroline's dismay).
While the network cancelled the clever and sharp series after a mere four episodes, that was enough time for many fans to become as madly enamored with her as they had become with Wonderfalls itself.
Before she sets off to film a new movie, Caroline talked to PopGurls about her Wonderfalls co-stars, her greatest fear, and what she learned from playing Jaye.
