John Carpenter is sometimes referred to as the “master of the horror film.” This is a reasonable title, bearing in mind that he has proved to be not only a director with a visually and thematically consistent body of work, but also a true visionary of the horror genre.
Visual highlights of the film include the gradual emergence of the white masked killer from the shadows and the ubiquitous subjective point of view shots of the killer at the beginning of the film.
Carpenter offers a sharp commentary on faith and religion, which according to the film's plot are mere inventions created by our ancestors to try to understand extraordinary, but nevertheless real and tangible, physical phenomena.

However, having listened to Passanti's lecture—Le Corbusier's Carpenter Center: the Building and the Architect—about how the building came to be, I find myself in the all-too-common position of having to admit that she may have had a point, at least in the sense that Le Corbusier might have agreed with her.
Meanwhile, the copious flat roof space that results from every floor having a different plan (a typically modernist motif enabled by the fact that the weight of the structure is born not by the walls but by the concrete frame) was supposed to be covered with undulating hills of earth and planted with shrubs.
The murals, for example, represent a fusion of painting and architecture, while the spacing of the piano windows turns out to be based on experimental musical interludes—the source of which, by the composer Xenakis, was possibly supposed to be piped into the lobby via a system of speakers.

Still it's hard to begrudge this show of 62 bronzes and the Cantors' generous loan of the works, including Rodin's famous "The Kiss"; but don't be surprised if a little known piece cast during Rodin's life has much more power than a more recent version of one of his better known pieces.
Filled with the artist's elegant draftsmanship and surprising visual inventiveness, this show can't help but be a crowd-pleaser.
