As for why no carpet bombings I would assume that they are holding off until the Northern Alliance are actually ready to move and there is a political solution to who is in charge when the dust settles.
The carpet bombing started when our spotters got into place.
I think the carpet bombing showed them that they can't up under bombing like they thought they could when we were doing the pinprick strikes.

The B1-B can carpet bomb but the B-52 seems to only want to drop one bomb per target.
The funny thing is the respective AI behaviour is in the game already - the B-52 performs perfect carpet attacks on runways, and the B-1, Tu-160 and Tu-95 manage to get off their bombload at once under all circumstances.
I tied Bombing with just the internal bays loaded (no bombs on wing pilons) and the B52 did carpet bomb the set target.

It would be really sweet if the line was visible in the mission editor and you could see how it will bomb.
That way, the bomber will break off immediately after releasing his bombs instead of flying all the way across the target area until he hits the waypoint.

We were utterly appalled at the deaths of so many innocent people, and loud was the condemnation of the cold blooded bastards, that could do such a thing.
If on the other hand you think that US goals are worth whatever price has to be paid, fine, just be honest about it, don't try to have it both ways.
Plus, I am not convinced that this bombing is actually about what they claim it is. I think a lot of it has to do with ideological craziness on the part of what Pat Buchanan is calling "the party of war" within the administration.
